How coaching can help you
My coaching is available to organ transplant clients of all ages.
I work with adolescents, adults, and parents of young children. When a serious illness strikes someone, it may affect every member of his or her family. I am also available to coach family members.

My coaching offers you someone to talk to who has gone through a similar experience. Through my attentive listening and compassionate feedback, I will give you comfort, support, and understanding.
My coaching will help you to sort out what information you need and direct you toward resources.
Asking important questions and seeking out accurate information about the entire transplant process is essential to patients and their family members. When you have knowledge you'll make better decisions for your well-being and you'll have fewer surprises to leave you unsettled. For example, you may wonder whether transplantation is right for you; how taking immunosuppressants for the rest of your life will affect you; what is involved in getting on multiple transplant lists; what is the recovery period like and when you can go back to work. We will sort out what to ask, whom to ask, and where to find information.
My coaching will help you accept the gift of a donated organ.

When organ donation is possible, the process is often complex and challenging. The donor and recipient have to undergo comprehensive testing, they often have concerns about one another's well being, and the recipient carries a great responsibility to take care of the donated organ. It can also be difficult for the recipient to recognize how very rewarding and meaningful it is to the friend, family member or stranger who donates an organ.
My coaching will help you to become more assertive in the management of your illness.
Seeing yourself as a partner with your medical team has advantages. Being knowledgeable and having input on treatment decisions empowers you and gives you control over what happens to you. We will work to identify these areas and develop strategies to make certain that you are involved.
My coaching will help you find creative ways to live your life as fully as possible while you receive treatment and wait on an organ transplant list.
Illness can affect how you see yourself and your sense of self worth. Realizing that you have many healthy parts and focusing your attention on the things that you can do, empowers you and gives you hope and a sense of purpose.
My coaching will help you if you are having a difficult time sticking to the medical regimen prescribed by your doctor. I will work with you to develop strategies that will keep you on track.
Following the medical regimen that is prescribed by the doctor before and after an organ transplant is extremely important. It is critical to the survival and functioning of the transplanted organ. We call this “Adherence” and it involves regularly taking the prescribed medication, sticking to a particular food diet, monitoring your blood pressure, going for regular blood work and clinic visits, etc.
I can help you to take this very challenging time in your life as an opportunity to look at your talents, passions and dreams and use these to create a rewarding and fulfilling present and a future.
After an organ transplant and a period of recovery, a transplant recipient may go back to some or many of the activities engaged in prior to the illness. At this point in the healing process, you have a chance to examine what is most important to you. Do you have the confidence and commitment to return to your job or school? Do you want to work at or study what you did in the past or have you been thinking of something new? Are there some restrictions that you have now that require creative problem solving to find alternative meaningful work?
